Investigations

Research/Investigations: we take a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of state capture involving local investigators, academic partners, data analysts, lawyers, and international experts. State Capture: Research and Action has a wide network of local investigative journalists, anti-corruption activists, and human rights defenders conducting field, financial, and open-source investigation (OSINT) investigations. This is complemented by our partnerships with academic institutions, private-sector data analysts, and international financial investigators. We undertake specific state case studies – identifying key players, beneficiaries, enablers, their assets, and their corporate structures. In parallel, we analyse how these findings fit into regional and international contexts, identifying intermediaries, facilitators, and money laundering hubs. The goal of our research is to build a full picture of the causes, protagonists, and consequences of state capture at the local and international levels. This research underpins all other activities – including legal action, policy advocacy, and education and support programs.
